Wichita Home Remodel With an Attached Garage Addition

FROM FRUSTRATION TO RENEWED VISION

This Wichita build and remodel project demonstrates how the right addition can breathe new life into a distressed property. What was once a detached garage is now seamlessly unified into the home through a dramatic vaulted-ceiling addition designed to enhance both function and beauty. Large windows fill the newly connected living space with natural light, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. Outside, Douglas Fir porch posts, a car siding ceiling, and LP SmartSide board and batten siding unify the home's exterior, resulting in a cohesive transformation that reflects the craftsmanship and attention to detail Heritage Homeworks brings to every remodeling project.

As a leading Remodeler and Custom Home Builder, we are excited to share this Home Remodeling project along with Seamlessly Integrated Garage Addition project we completed.

A WARM WELCOME TO THIS NEW RENOVATION

Stepping inside, visitors are introduced to a home that feels both refined and inviting. This first impression sets the tone for the entire remodel, showcasing custom cabinetry carried throughout the home to create a sense of continuity and craftsmanship. Full-height cabinets extending to the ceiling draw the eye upward, enhancing the feeling of space despite the home's 8-foot ceilings. In the kitchen, elegant Cambria quartz countertops and a matching quartz backsplash add durability, beauty, and a finishing touch to this stunning Wichita home transformation.

A KITCHEN DESIGNED FOR EVERYDAY LIVING AND ENTERTAINING

As part of this Wichita whole home renovation, the kitchen remodel was designed to balance beauty, functionality, and the way the homeowners truly live. The space features a double refrigerator and freezer configuration for generous food storage, along with double ovens that make preparing family meals and entertaining guests effortless. Tucked discreetly to the right of the refrigeration wall, a hidden pantry provides additional storage while maintaining the kitchen's clean, streamlined appearance.  At the center of the design, a gas range paired with a vented range hood exhausted to the exterior offers serious cooking performance, while a convenient pot filler adds everyday practicality. Full-height Cambria quartz backsplashes extend seamlessly from the countertops, creating a sophisticated, low-maintenance finish that enhances the kitchen's appeal and ties together this beautifully remodeled home.

AN AREA DESIGNED TO BE THE HEART OF THE HOME

The living room was designed to be both inviting and unforgettable, anchored by a striking wood-burning fireplace that celebrates craftsmanship and character. Reclaimed barnwood flooring introduces a rich sense of history and warmth, while Douglas Fir box beams overhead add architectural interest and rustic charm throughout the vaulted space. At the center of it all is a Kozy Heat Albany wood-burning fireplace finished with beautiful ProVia stone and framed by a substantial 12x12 Douglas Fir mantel and matching corbels. The mantel alone required five people to carefully position into place—a testament to the scale and authenticity of the design. A wraparound hearth with wide hearth stones takes full advantage of the room's large proportions, creating a gathering place that is as functional as it is beautiful. The result is a living room filled with texture, warmth, and timeless appeal—one that truly feels like the heart of this Wichita whole home renovation.

A DINING SPACE FRAMED BY DETAILS

Viewed from the entry, the dining area immediately reflects the craftsmanship carried throughout this Wichita whole home renovation. Elegant ProVia front doors create a welcoming first impression, while painted crown molding extending throughout the main floor adds refinement and architectural continuity. These details establish a sense of warmth and sophistication that defines the home's character from the moment guests arrive.

From the opposite perspective, the dining room reveals its connection to the surrounding living spaces. Engineered hardwood flooring provides both beauty and durability underfoot, while white oak trim surrounding the windows and continuing through the baseboards of the great room introduces natural warmth and texture. Together, these finishes create a dining space that feels open, inviting, and perfectly suited for both everyday meals and memorable gatherings.

A BEDROOM THAT REFLECTS THE HOME'S CHARACTER

The primary bedroom offers a peaceful retreat while honoring the historic character that inspired this Wichita whole home renovation. The details elevate the space, beginning with the custom window casings, where the added profile creates depth, elegance, and a more refined architectural presence. These subtle enhancements draw attention to the craftsmanship behind the remodel and demonstrate how even the smallest details can make a lasting impression. Continuing the home's commitment to authenticity, the custom baseboards were designed to reflect the style of an 1880s farmhouse. Their distinctive profile adds warmth and character, connecting the newly renovated spaces to the charm of homes-built generations ago. The result is a primary suite that feels comfortable and serene while celebrating the enduring beauty of traditional design.

This master bathroom remodel was designed to create a spa-like retreat while incorporating the practical features homeowners appreciate every day. A soaking tub set into a custom quartz deck serves as a beautiful focal point, complemented by floating shelves with accent lighting that add both warmth and ambiance to the space. Nearby, a custom vanity with open towel storage blends style and functionality, ensuring everyday essentials remain conveniently within reach.   The zero-barrier shower enhances accessibility without sacrificing elegance, featuring custom tile floors, walls, ceiling, and a built-in niche for a seamless, high-end appearance. A transom window welcomes natural light into the shower, brightening the room while maintaining privacy. Finished with quality Delta faucets and selected details throughout, this bathroom remodel reflects the same level of craftsmanship and design found throughout the entire Wichita whole home renovation.

DETAILS CONNECT EVERY LEVEL OF THE HOME

This view highlights how carefully planned design elements can enhance both function and aesthetics. A custom coffee bar creates a convenient destination for morning routines and entertaining, featuring a separate sink, quartz countertop, and matching quartz backsplash for a clean, sophisticated appearance. Floating shelves with integrated under-cabinet lighting add warmth and visual interest while providing practical display space.

Just beyond the coffee bar, the open railing design creates a sense of openness and allows natural light to flow throughout the home while clearly defining the staircase leading to the basement. Together, these features demonstrate how this Wichita whole home renovation blends everyday convenience with architectural details.

A BRIGHT AND INVITING LOWER-LEVEL LIVING SPACE

This remodeled basement was designed to feel like a natural extension of the home rather than a traditional lower-level space. Generous windows bring in an abundance of natural light, creating a bright, open atmosphere that makes it easy to forget you're in a basement. The result is a welcoming environment that feels every bit as comfortable and connected as the main floor. A custom basement bar serves as a focal point for entertaining, complete with an under-counter beverage cooler and convenient access to the spacious living area. The open layout encourages gathering and conversation, making the space ideal for hosting family and friends. Overhead, a ceiling detail conceals a substantial structural beam that supports both the floor and roof above—a necessary element resulting from the home's addition. By integrating this feature into the design, Heritage Homeworks maintained the clean, finished appearance of the space while preserving the open feel of the room.

As part of the basement renovation, additional living space was created to comfortably accommodate family and guests. The basement bedroom was designed to meet legal egress requirements, which included the installation of two new window wells. Visible through the bedroom window, the brick-formed concrete window well adds both character and functionality while allowing natural light to enter the space and providing a safe emergency exit. Conveniently located nearby, the basement bathroom offers the same attention to detail found throughout the home. Quartz countertops provide a durable and elegant surface, while quality Delta lavatory faucets contribute to the bathroom's clean, timeless design. Together, the bedroom and bathroom create a welcoming lower-level retreat that feels every bit as comfortable and thoughtfully finished as the main living areas above.

OUTDOOR LIVING DESIGNED TO EXTEND THE HOME

After touring the beautifully remodeled interior, the transformation continues outdoors with a covered living space designed for year-round enjoyment. Crafted with substantial 8x8 and 8x12 Douglas fir beams, matching 8x8 Douglas fir columns, and a knotty pine car siding ceiling, this outdoor retreat combines durability with timeless character. To help ensure long-term performance, the car siding ceiling was pre-finished in the shop and sealed on the back side to minimize expansion and contraction caused by moisture. Underfoot, TimberTech decking in the Antique Leather color provides a low-maintenance surface, while black DekPro Prestige aluminum railings offer clean lines that complement the home's architecture. A discreet storage area with door access is conveniently located on the left side, providing practical space without detracting from the outdoor living experience.

FOLLOWING THE JOURNEY: KEY CONSTRUCTION MILESTONES

Temporary support walls were installed to safely hold the existing roof in place while the new foundation walls were constructed. At the same time, excavation was completed for the footings that will support the new retaining walls, preparing the site for the next phase of construction.

Framing for the new great room is now complete, creating the spacious gathering area envisioned for the home. The large windows are still on order, as they were revised and ordered later following a change that increased the height of the great room. As a result, the exterior siding is complete throughout the home except for this area. Inside, insulation has been installed and the project is ready for drywall. To enhance comfort and privacy, sound-dampening insulation was also applied to many of the interior walls, helping create a quieter living environment throughout the home.

Interior finish work is well underway, with trim carpentry bringing warmth and character to the home. Because the great room ceiling rises approximately 21 feet to the peak, scaffolding was required to safely install the beautiful Douglas Fir ceiling beams. The windows were finished with custom White Oak trim, adding a rich natural accent throughout the space. In the basement, sections of the concrete floor were carefully cut to accommodate new plumbing lines. In the background, openings have also been created for new egress window wells, an important step in transforming the basement into functional, code-compliant living space.

"We couldn’t have asked for a better crew. They were most considerate, given the fact that we lived among the construction. Very satisfied with the final appearance and function of the remodel and addition. So nice to be able to communicate via text and email."

~Wilmer and Alvera T.

“Heritage Home Works did a FANTASTIC job on the installation of the windows. How did they earn that compliment? I’m basing it on the experience I’d had a few years ago with Lowe’s replacing the windows on the south side. They did a terrible job with the caulk, the finish… I had to have my painter come back and fix all that. The fit, finish, quality and stuff Dan’s crew did well. It just looked like it’s supposed to be done.”

~Doug F.

"I am very happy with the work that was done, and… felt blessed to have had Dan and his crew doing the remodel. I would definitely recommend Heritage Home Works to people I know. I would gladly show their work to any one who asks."

~Carolyn K.
